Pam Bondi Faces Fire in Explosive Senate Showdown.

 By   Peninah Mbula| The Common Pulse/latest news/Mexico/US/ Kenya/Abroad/Africa / OCTOBER2025.

Attorney General Pam Bondi's recent testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee was nothing short of a political spectacle. For over four hours, Bondi clashed with Democratic senators over allegations of DOJ politicization, the handling of the Epstein case, and the deployment of National Guard troops. Here's a breakdown of the most explosive moments from the hearing.

1. Accusations of DOJ Weaponization

Democratic senators, including Dick Durbin and Adam Schiff, accused Bondi of transforming the Department of Justice into a political tool for the Trump administration. They pointed to investigations into Trump critics and the dismissal of career prosecutors as evidence of this politicization. Bondi defended the DOJ's actions, claiming they were focused on "real crime" and ending the "weaponization of justice" .

 2. Epstein Files Controversy

Bondi faced intense scrutiny over the release of the Epstein files, which were heavily redacted and offered little new information. Senator Dick Durbin criticized the release as a political stunt rather than a genuine effort at transparency. Bondi defended the release, stating it was in line with the DOJ's commitment to transparency

 3. National Guard Deployment Debate

The deployment of National Guard troops to Chicago was a major point of contention. Senator Durbin accused the administration of overreach and violating constitutional principles. Bondi countered, stating that if local authorities fail to protect citizens, President Trump will take action .

4. Handling of Investigations into Trump Critics

Bondi was questioned about the DOJ's investigations into figures like former FBI Director James Comey, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and Senator Adam Schiff. She declined to provide details, citing ongoing investigations, but emphasized the DOJ's commitment to impartiality.

 5. Partisan Clash and Political Fallout

The hearing highlighted deep partisan divisions, with Republicans defending Bondi's leadership and Democrats accusing her of undermining the DOJ's integrity. Bondi's combative approach and the heated exchanges underscored the ongoing tensions between the DOJ and Senate Democrats .

No Exit: Biya’s Return, Democracy’s Decline

By Kirangacha Mwaniki The Common Pulse | August 2025 At 92 years old, Cameroonian President Paul Biya has signaled his intention to run for yet another term in the 2025 presidential election. Having ruled since 1982, Biya is now the second-longest-serving head of state in the world;  after Equatorial Guinea’s Teodoro Obiang. His decision has sparked outrage, resignation, and confusion among Cameroonians, many of whom have never known another leader. This re-election bid is more than just a political event;  it is a glaring symptom of a system that has resisted reform, ignored generational change, and weaponized fear to maintain the status quo. The Man Who Time Forgot Paul Biya came to power before most Cameroonians were born. He has led through the Cold War, the rise of mobile phones, the internet revolution, and the African Continental Free Trade Area — all while aging behind the walls of Etoudi Palace. He is rarely seen in public, often ruling from abroad;  mostly Swit...
