Raila Odinga Dies in India: The End of an Era in Kenyan Politics

The world woke up in shock as news broke that former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga one of Africa’s most influential political figures has died at 80 years old while in Kerala, India. Reports from AP News and Reuters confirm that Raila suffered a sudden cardiac arrest during a morning walk at an Ayurvedic retreat and was rushed to Deva Matha Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

For decades, Raila Odinga was more than a politician he was a movement. From the streets of Nairobi to the corridors of power, he embodied Kenya’s struggle for democracy, equality, and reform. His voice, often defiant and fearless, inspired generations and reshaped Kenya’s political landscape.

Sources from The Star and NDTV reveal that Raila had traveled to India for rest and medical care following prior health concerns. Despite his health battles, he remained active in public life, meeting supporters and championing reforms until his final days.

Social media has since erupted in an outpouring of emotion leaders, ODM loyalists, and citizens alike sharing tributes, memories, and heartbreak. The nation mourns not just a politician, but a father figure a symbol of resilience and hope.

According to AP News and Reuters, diplomatic protocols are now underway to facilitate the return of his body to Kenya, where the government is expected to make a formal statement. Flags are anticipated to fly at half-mast as the country prepares for what will likely be one of the largest state funerals in Kenya’s history.

Raila Odinga’s passing marks the end of an era, a silence that will echo deeply across Kenya and beyond. His legacy of courage, reform, and relentless pursuit of justice will forever be etched in Africa’s political soul.

Rest in Power, Baba. The people’s choice. Forever Kenya’s flame.

No Exit: Biya’s Return, Democracy’s Decline

By Kirangacha Mwaniki The Common Pulse | August 2025 At 92 years old, Cameroonian President Paul Biya has signaled his intention to run for yet another term in the 2025 presidential election. Having ruled since 1982, Biya is now the second-longest-serving head of state in the world;  after Equatorial Guinea’s Teodoro Obiang. His decision has sparked outrage, resignation, and confusion among Cameroonians, many of whom have never known another leader. This re-election bid is more than just a political event;  it is a glaring symptom of a system that has resisted reform, ignored generational change, and weaponized fear to maintain the status quo. The Man Who Time Forgot Paul Biya came to power before most Cameroonians were born. He has led through the Cold War, the rise of mobile phones, the internet revolution, and the African Continental Free Trade Area — all while aging behind the walls of Etoudi Palace. He is rarely seen in public, often ruling from abroad;  mostly Swit...

The human gut is home to trillions of microorganisms, collectively known as the gut microbiota. This intricate ecosystem is involved in digestion, nutrient absorption, and immune function, and it plays a surprising role in mental health, mood regulation, and metabolic processes. A balanced microbiome can be thoug...
