Breaking Records in 2025: How Sawe Ran the Fastest Marathon of the Year

By   Mutunga Tobbias | The Common Pulse/latest news/ Kenya/United States/Africa / September 2025.

Kenyan long-distance runner Sabastian Sawe has etched his name into the annals of marathon history with a commanding victory at the 2025 Berlin Marathon. Completing the race in 2:02:16, Sawe not only secured his third consecutive marathon win but also reaffirmed his status as a formidable force in the world of elite distance running. This triumph adds to his impressive resume, which includes victories at the 2024 Valencia Marathon and the 2025 London Marathon.

A Glimpse into Sawe's Meteoric Rise

Sabastian Sawe's journey to marathon stardom is a testament to perseverance and adaptability. Initially specializing in middle-distance events, Sawe transitioned to long-distance running with remarkable success. His debut marathon in Valencia in 2024 was nothing short of spectacular, as he clinched victory with a time of 2:02:05, marking the fifth-fastest time in history at that point. Building on this momentum, Sawe's performance at the 2025 London Marathon further solidified his reputation, where he secured first place with a time of 2:02:27, narrowly missing the course record.

The 2025 Berlin Marathon: A Race of Strategy and Endurance

The 2025 Berlin Marathon, held on September 21, presented unique challenges for the runners. Despite favorable conditions early in the race, unseasonably warm temperatures later in the day posed difficulties for many competitors. Sawe, however, demonstrated exceptional pacing and strategic acumen. He maintained a consistent pace throughout the race, crossing the finish line in 2:02:16, nearly four minutes ahead of Japan's Akira Akasaki, who finished second with a time of 2:06:15. Ethiopia's Chimdessa Debele secured third place with a time of 2:06:57.

The Significance of Sawe's Victory

Sawe's victory at the 2025 Berlin Marathon is noteworthy for several reasons. Firstly, his time of 2:02:16 is the fastest recorded in 2025, setting a new world-leading mark for the year. Secondly, the race conditions were less than ideal, with temperatures reaching up to 25°C, which typically affect performance in long-distance events. Despite these challenges, Sawe's ability to maintain a strong pace underscores his exceptional conditioning and mental fortitude.

Looking Ahead: Sawe's Future in Marathon Running

With three major marathon victories in a single year, Sawe's future in the sport appears promising. His consistent performances and ability to adapt to varying race conditions suggest that he has the potential to continue challenging records and competing at the highest level. As the marathon circuit progresses, all eyes will be on Sawe to see if he can maintain his winning streak and possibly set new benchmarks in the sport.

He is being held without bail at the Utah County Jail. From Apprentice to Accused Killer Robinson grew up in Washington County, Utah, in what neighbors describe as a quiet household. No Exit: Biya’s Return, Democracy’s Decline

By Kirangacha Mwaniki The Common Pulse | August 2025 At 92 years old, Cameroonian President Paul Biya has signaled his intention to run for yet another term in the 2025 presidential election. Having ruled since 1982, Biya is now the second-longest-serving head of state in the world;  after Equatorial Guinea’s Teodoro Obiang. His decision has sparked outrage, resignation, and confusion among Cameroonians, many of whom have never known another leader. This re-election bid is more than just a political event;  it is a glaring symptom of a system that has resisted reform, ignored generational change, and weaponized fear to maintain the status quo. The Man Who Time Forgot Paul Biya came to power before most Cameroonians were born. He has led through the Cold War, the rise of mobile phones, the internet revolution, and the African Continental Free Trade Area — all while aging behind the walls of Etoudi Palace. He is rarely seen in public, often ruling from abroad;  mostly Swit...
