Venus Williams’ Return: More Than a Match

 By Tobbias Mutunga

The Common Pulse | August 2025

When Venus Williams walked back onto Arthur Ashe Stadium after a 16-month health hiatus, the crowd rose not just to greet a champion, but to honor a journey. At 45, the seven-time Grand Slam winner wasn’t chasing another trophy; she was chasing something far more personal, the joy of playing “healthy and free of pain.”

A First-Round Exit, But a Lasting Impact

Williams’ comeback match against Karolína Muchová ended in a first-round loss, but the scoreline was almost irrelevant. Fans showered her with applause, grateful to see her back on court after whispers that her career might already have reached its quiet conclusion. The emotion was palpable, Venus herself held back tears, speaking of the privilege of being able to step onto the court again without her body betraying her.

Redefining Victory

For Venus, this return wasn’t about defying age or rewriting record books. It was about resilience. Her words , “healthy and free of pain” struck a chord with athletes and fans alike, reframing what success can mean in sports. Sometimes, victory is not lifting a trophy but simply reclaiming the ability to do what you love.

A Symbol Beyond Tennis

Venus’ story resonates far beyond tennis. In a world obsessed with youth, speed, and titles, she reminds us that endurance, self-belief, and gratitude are equally powerful legacies. Just as Serena reshaped women’s tennis through dominance, Venus is shaping its narrative of longevity, showing that purpose doesn’t end with peak performance.

Whether this marks the beginning of a longer farewell tour or simply a personal milestone, Venus has already left her mark, again. Her presence at the 2025 US Open is a reminder that greatness isn’t always measured in wins, but in courage, perseverance, and the ability to inspire.

Venus Williams’ return wasn’t a story of defeat. It was a story of triumph over pain, a celebration of persistence, and a love letter to the sport that defined her life.

He is being held without bail at the Utah County Jail. From Apprentice to Accused Killer Robinson grew up in Washington County, Utah, in what neighbors describe as a quiet household. No Exit: Biya’s Return, Democracy’s Decline

By Kirangacha Mwaniki The Common Pulse | August 2025 At 92 years old, Cameroonian President Paul Biya has signaled his intention to run for yet another term in the 2025 presidential election. Having ruled since 1982, Biya is now the second-longest-serving head of state in the world;  after Equatorial Guinea’s Teodoro Obiang. His decision has sparked outrage, resignation, and confusion among Cameroonians, many of whom have never known another leader. This re-election bid is more than just a political event;  it is a glaring symptom of a system that has resisted reform, ignored generational change, and weaponized fear to maintain the status quo. The Man Who Time Forgot Paul Biya came to power before most Cameroonians were born. He has led through the Cold War, the rise of mobile phones, the internet revolution, and the African Continental Free Trade Area — all while aging behind the walls of Etoudi Palace. He is rarely seen in public, often ruling from abroad;  mostly Swit...
